Introduction

Boyer Landscapes, Inc. is a Virginia Class A contractor CBC, RBC, HIC, ISC, LSC and a West Virginia contractor in landscaping. Virginia Department of Consumer and Agriculture Services (VDCAS) and Office of Pesticide Services (OPS) - Pesticide Business License, Commercial Applicator License (Lew Boyer & Dave Sims), and several Registered Technicians. VDACS - fertilizer and lime contractor and applicator. VDACS - Nursery Stock dealer. Interlocking Concrete Paver Institute certifications and the School for Advanced Segmental paver - hardscape chemical certification.

Boyer Landscapes, Inc. currently staffs 2 designers, an office manager and a work force of 18-20 landscape, hardscape, and irrigation technicians. The company operates at 1165 Fairfax Pike, White Post, VA, 22663 just east of Stephens City, VA with a 5 acre nursery and yard. The nursery and yard provide trees, shrubs, perennials, mulch, irrigation and hardscape materials for use in landscape, hardscape and irrigation contracting. Serving the Winchester, Virginia area and surrounding communities, offering contracting services to residential and commercial clients.  

History

Lew Boyer II established Boyer Landscapes, Inc. in August 1987. The company was located on Aylor Road in Stephens City at Lew's grandfather's house, Paul Cadwallader. The first commercial jobs sold were the Marathon Bank in Kernstown and McDonalds in Winchester. In 1992, the company moved to its current location on Fairfax Pike. Glen Baker was named Vice President of Operations in 1998. Dave Sims was added to the staff in May 2006. In August 2018, Dave was named Vice President of Operations and Glen Baker moving to Vice President of Field Operations. In 2021, Lew and Dave entered into a buy-sell agreement, Lew and Dave are co-owners. 

Since its establishment, Boyer Landscapes, Inc. has been a community partner with other businesses and organizations to work on community projects like Habitat for Humanity. The company typically works on 2-3 Habitat houses per year, donating the materials and labor for the landscape portion of the project. 18 months after hurricane Katrina, a group of Boyer employees went to work on houses in Biloxi, Mississippi. A year later another crew went to continue working on other houses in the same area. Boyer Landscapes, Inc. has also supported mission trips to Haiti and Africa, led by Brent Ebeling.

Below is a picture of Lew and Dave, working with members of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church on a Habitat for Humanity house on Highland Avenue. This was Boyer Landscapes, Inc. 30th Habitat House in 30 years of business. Boyer Landscapes, Inc. donated the materials and members of Grace and Boyer came together install the plants, mulch, and sod in February 2018.

We have been fortunate to work with several clients, in which our projects were chosen for magazine articles and covers. Our projects have also been nominated and won best of show in Parade of Homes. Below is a cover picture from Nicolock Pavers annual product magazine. The photo is a project we installed in Winchester. The foreman of the project is actually sitting in the chair of the photo.

Staff

Lew Boyer - President, Co-Owner - Lew is a graduate of James Wood High School, where he received the Anderson scholarship to study at Virginia Tech and graduated with a degree in horticulture and landscape design in 1986. After graduation Lew began work at Monrovia, the worlds largest container grown nursery. After working for various landscape companies, he established Boyer Landscapes, Inc. in the summer of 1987. Lew has a Virginia Class A Contractor's License and a Commercial Pesticide Applicator license for ornamental and turf grass pest control.

Lew is married to Dr. Jamie Clark and has 3 children. Lew was a member of Frederick County Rotary and Paul Harris Fellow from 1990-2009, a past Eagle Scout and a Habitat for Humanity volunteer. Lew enjoys home building, cooking, beach vacations, and golf. Lew has organized and participated in rebuilding trips to Biloxi, Mississippi in 2008 and 2009.

Dave Sims - Vice President of Operations, Co-Owner - Dave is a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School in Shenandoah County, VA (2002). After high school Dave attended West Virginia University and earned a B.S. in Landscape Architecture (2006). He interned with Boyer Landscapes, Inc. in the summer of 2005 and accepted a position with the company in May 2006. Dave is a Level 1 ICPI certified concrete paver installer and also has a hardscape chemical certification from the School for Advanced Segmental Paving. In 2018, he was promoted to Vice President of Operations, those responsibilities include managing the daily operations of the company as well as continuing to design, sell, and manage projects. In 2021, Dave bought in and became a Co-Owner of the company. Dave has a Virginia Class A contractors license, a Commercial Pesticide Applicator license for ornamental and turf pest control and notary public. Dave enjoys working with clients and maintaining those relationships he has developed over his time at Boyer Landscapes, Inc.

Dave lives in Stephens City with his wife, Adrienne and daughter, Gracie. Dave enjoys camping with friends, playing golf, running, and hiking. Dave enjoys volunteering at Highland Food Pantry in Winchester.

Glen Baker - Vice President of Field Operations - Glen has been with the company since 1995. Glen began in the landscape division and over the years has worked in every facet of the company. Today, Glen specializes in irrigation, water features and low voltage lighting. Glen is the lead in irrigation installation and service work. Glen is a certified in inspections and maintenance of cross connection devices for irrigation backflow devices.

Maria Pompanio, Office Manager, began her career at Boyer Landscapes, Inc in October 2022. Maria joined the company to replace Patti Payne after Patti's retirement in December 2022. Maria's responsibilities include accounts payable and receivable, payroll and managing and coordinating the office on a daily basis.
