This was a fun project to work on. It's not everyday that a customer will ask to design a zen garden. The customer wanted something simple, yet beautiful. At a previous house they had a garden similar to this one, but in a very different climate. The home is a new neighborhood where the houses look very similar. This landscape will set them apart. We used round stones and round river rock in the beds for features instead of using a lot of plants, which keeps maintenance down. We did install a few plants but used them more as specimens. We incorporated statues that the customer purchased for the garden and finished it off with the welcome sign attached to the stone, which fits perfectly.
This project is a large scale residential project that incorporated many outdoor elements in large space. Brent and the client when through several designs before they selected the perfect one. The design included an outdoor kitchen, with a pellet smoker, side burner, sink, a cooler, and cabinets. The kitchen is shaded by a vinyl pergola with night lighting. The large patio also features an outdoor chimney that is fueled with natural gas. The chimney is unique with a water fall that flows in front of the fire box into a dry basin, which is also the hearth. this was a challenging element to construct with the water feature and the fire. The patio also has several eating and sitting areas to enjoy the outdoors. We are extremely proud of this project for winning the Top of Virginia Parade of Homes and making the cover of Nicolock pavers sales magazine.
This project was a much needed repair. The existing wall was crumbling and in failure due to age and inadequate installation methods. We removed the existing wall and debris and excavated the area. We installed pipes and gravel for drainage and constructed the new wall. The new wall is constructed out of a Keystone product that is designed for structural walls. We installed a fence behind the wall for safety. As you can see from the pictures what an improvement this was.
Adding a walkway is usually a great way to add value to your home and also add a functional element to your yard. This customer purchased a home in a new subdivision where all the homes look alike. They wanted to add something to the front of the house that would be different, but also beautiful. We designed and installed a new front walkway with landscaping on either side that invites guests up the front door. What an improvement over the existing concrete sidewalk that is too narrow for two people to walk side by side. The Nicolock Lilac Blend pavers are a perfect match for the stone on the house.
